About
EastSide Arts and The Green East present a new artist showcase Gig in a Garden. Discover a secret garden venue in the heart of East Belfast , the perfect setting for an intimate gig with two of Belfast’s rising stars in folk music Niall McDowell and Aine Gordon. Spend your Sunday afternoon with us. Áine Gordon is a Belfast-based singer-songwriter working within contemporary folk. Her debut EP The Stray, released in May 2025, is a four-track collection of folk-influenced songs with subtle, layered arrangements and a strong sense of atmosphere.
Gordon’s songwriting balances vulnerability with clarity, rooted in personal detail and observation. Produced and mixed by Joshua Burnside, The Stray has been noted for its raw, unpolished feel and thoughtful arrangements, establishing Gordon as an emerging voice in Irish folk. Her live performances are defined by vocal control, emotional restraint, and a strong connection with the audience.
Since the release of The Stray, Gordon has continued to develop her live profile, supporting Joshua Burnside at the Ulster Hall and performing at festivals and showcase events including Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, Sound of Belfast, and Chordblossom’s GIFTED series at The Empire Music Hall. Niall McDowell (he/they) is an alt-country singer/songwriter from Belfast, County Antrim. Their music has been described as "somewhere between a choirboy and a cowboy" by BBC Radio 1. After an array of sold-out live shows, 2023’s single 'I Have Given Up' was subsequently shortlisted for 'Single Of The Year' at the Northern Ireland Music Prize. Please note this is a sober event, there will be complimentary non-alcoholic beers from Fierce Mild or feel free to bring your own non-alcoholic beverage.
