Prisoners' Day
The annual Coiste Prisoners' Day returns this year with a focus on the 50th anniversary of the ending of political status and the beginning of the prison protests.
The event will explore the political, social and historical impact of the British Government's decision to withdraw political status on 1 March 1976. Danny Morrison will open proceedings by outlining the political context surrounding the policy change and its significance.
A series of panel discussions will then examine the experiences of those directly affected. Former prisoners will reflect on conditions in Crumlin Road Gaol, Armagh Gaol, the opening of the H-Blocks, the increasingly repressive prison regime and the escalating protests that followed.
Family members will discuss the confusion surrounding the introduction of the new policy and the gradual growth of public awareness and support. Former activists and relatives will also reflect on organising protests and demonstrations across Ireland, as well as the increasing international attention focused on the prison struggle.
The event concludes with a discussion on the wider impact of the prison protests and hunger strikes, including their significance within the broader struggle, the emergence of Sinn Féin's electoral strategy and the enduring legacy of the prison protests.
Lunch will be provided.
Free event. No booking required.

Lá na nIarchimí
Beidh Lá na nIarchimí bliantúil de chuid Choiste ar ais i mbliana le fócas ar 50ú comóradh dheireadh an stádais pholaitiúil agus thús agóidí na bpríosúnach.
Déanfaidh an t-imeacht iniúchadh ar an tionchar polaitiúil, sóisialta agus stairiúil a bhí ag cinneadh Rialtas na Breataine stádas polaitiúil a tharraingt siar ar 1 Márta 1976. Osclóidh Danny Morrison an ócáid le léargas ar an gcomhthéacs polaitiúil a bhain leis an athrú beartais agus ar a thábhacht.
Déanfaidh sraith díospóireachtaí painéil iniúchadh ar eispéiris na ndaoine ba mhó a ndeachaigh an t-athrú i bhfeidhm orthu. Déanfaidh iarphríosúnaigh machnamh ar na dálaí i bPríosún Bhóthar na Cromghlinne, i bPríosún Ard Mhacha, ar oscailt na H-Bhlocanna, ar an réimeas príosúin a bhí ag éirí níos géire agus ar na hagóidí a lean.
Pléifidh baill teaghlaigh an mearbhall a chruthaigh an t-athrú beartais agus an fás de réir a chéile ar thuiscint agus ar thacaíocht an phobail. Déanfaidh iarghníomhaithe agus gaolta machnamh freisin ar eagrú agóidí agus léirsithe ar fud na hÉireann agus ar an aird idirnáisiúnta a bhí ag dul i méid ar streachailt na bpríosúnach.
Críochnóidh an t-imeacht le plé ar thionchar níos leithne na n-agóidí príosúin agus na stailceanna ocrais, lena n-áirítear a dtábhacht sa streachailt níos leithne, teacht chun cinn straitéis toghcháin Shinn Féin agus an oidhreacht bhuan a d'fhág agóidí na bpríosúnach do na glúnta atá le teacht.
Beidh lón ar fáil.
Imeacht saor in aisce. Ní bheidh áirithint de dhíth.
