The Harrison Chambers of Distinction

Celebrate the sound of Macalla in this intimate taster show at the Blue Room in the Harrison Chambers of Distinction ahead of their headline concert at the Belfast City Hall Gig Rig as part of the Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. The music ensemble, featuring members of the Mashakt Collective from Iraq, joins local players from the North West Folk Collective to blend the traditional sounds of Irish and Middle Eastern music. Aptly translated as ‘echo’ in Irish, the ensemble explores the melodies and instrumentation that mirror both cultures, with Irish harp, pipes, bouzouki and fiddle combining with oud, qanun and Middle Eastern percussion – traversing the old to create something entirely new! Recently featured at Celtic Connections, Glasgow's folk, roots and world music festival, Macalla is supported by the British Council and co-created in partnership with Earagail Arts Festival, Donegal. Join us at McKowski Cafe for a special night dedicated to honouring the life and legacy of one of Ireland’s most influential musicians, Arty McGlynn, with a line-up of special guests curated by Arty's son, Jerome. Arty's groundbreaking 1979 album McGlynn’s Fancy redefined the role of the acoustic guitar in Irish traditional music, and his collaborations with icons such as Van Morrison, Paul Brady, Mary Black, Liam O’Flynn, and Planxty cemented his place as a master musician and innovator. Arty McGlynn’s legacy is woven into the fabric of Irish music Celebrate the music of Arty McGlynn, which spans traditional Irish music to blues and jazz.

Irish musician Ursula Burns has developed a hybrid style of harping that incorporates elements of Paraguayan and Celtic techniques, with a focus on self-expression. On stage, the harp underpins Ursula’s one-woman shows; for composition, she also works with piano.

Reylta is a singer-songwriter from Galway. Inspired by the Irish landscape, storytelling and culture of rural life, her music blends haunting melodies with choral arrangements and lush string sounds. In 2025, she was a finalist in Eurosong with her song “Fire,” which gained European attention. Her recently featured song, Rain, from her first album Everything Unsaved Will Be Lost, appeared in Irish Farmers a Love Story—a documentary film that premiered at SXSW.
