South Africa's Truth & Reconciliation Commission

As part of South Africa’s democratic transition which heralded an end to the apartheid regime, a new Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) was created to address the legacy of past conflict. Chaired by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the TRC held public hearings across South Africa.

Thirty years on, a panel of experts from South Africa and Ireland reflect on the legacy of the TRC and what lessons have been learned for peacebuilding in other post-conflict societies.

Mar chuid d’athrú daonlathach na hAfraice Theas a ba chúis le deireadh réimeas na cinedheighilte, cruthaíodh Coimisiún Fírinne agus Athmhuintearais nua (TRC) chun tabhairt faoi stair na coimhlinte atá caite. Bhí an tArdeaspag Desmond Tutu ina chathaoirleach air agus reáchtáil sé éisteachtaí poiblí ar fud na hAfraice Theas.

Tríocha bliain níos moille, beidh painéal saineolaithe ón Afraic Theas agus ó Éirinn ag déanamh machnaimh ar oidhreacht an TRC agus ar na ceachtanna a bhí foghlamtha le síocháin a dhéanamh i sochaithe iarchoimhlinte eile.
