About
Seanchaí
A New Street Theatre Commission by Louise Conaghan
Seanchaí is an original Play Make-Believe character created and performed by Louise Conaghan, specially commissioned for Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann 2026.
This striking new street theatre work brings Ireland's myths, songs and stories to life through a spectacular roaming storyteller who wanders the streets of Belfast carrying fragments of memory, folklore and tradition.
Somewhere between woman, myth and memory, Seanchaí is cloaked in layers of repurposed textiles, hidden symbols and curious treasures. Around her, old stories gather, stitched together and brought vividly back to life.
Look closely and you may discover references to Irish legends, blessings and songs, each one capable of sparking a tale, a tune, a blessing or a sharp-witted exchange.
Strange, nurturing and otherworldly, Seanchaí invites audiences to pause, look closer and experience Ireland's storytelling tradition as something living, breathing and moving through the city.
